Sewing clothes can be such a joy, but today's trendy patterns that are on the market may not be exactly what you are looking for.  Finding a good vintage sewing pattern is not as hard as you may think.  Some of the most beautiful fashions in the world have come from the early 1940's and up.  Some of the dresses that Jackie Kennedy Onassis wore were absolutely stunning.  Being able to find a pattern such as this is a great treasure and one that you will want to hang onto.  Some fashion styles are being brought back into popularity today. For example, fashions from the 1950's, such as the Grace Kelly 1955 dress or the 1957 style Bermuda shorts are great patterns and would make wonderful outfits. The 1960's fashion styles included A-line dresses, girl's bell shaped dresses and that ever popular sixties' housewife dress.  The selections are endless.  Woodstock and the hippie era had great styles with bell bottom pants, groovy tops and headbands. Finding a vintage sewing pattern is fairly easy.  Some of them are very rare and have been used but the quality of these older patterns is still present.  Sewing a costume for yourself or your family or just bringing back a little of the old meshed in with the new can be accomplished with satisfaction and ease.  Just looking through the old patterns is so much fun because it can really bring back memories of your youth.  It gives you a chance to look back through time and see what the popular styles of the day were.  You may even find a pattern that you want to sew for a special occasion or just to have on hand.  It will give you great pride to show off your retro outfits to your children and/or grandchildren.  It will give you a good opportunity to teach them about the days in the past when life was so different and people used to sew their own clothes.  It will teach them a lesson in frugality, which is becoming popular again in today's economy.  Look through the vintage sewing patterns.  You will be amazed at what they have to offer and may find the perfect pattern for yourself.
